Sock Hop At Cherokee

Tonight was the annual Back to School Sock Hop at Lauren's school. Lauren had a great time. She enjoyed the popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, and root beer floats. Of course the hula hoop contest was fun but the best part was hanging out with friends. It was a good night!!

Orthodontic Treatment- phase 1

Lauren official started phase 1 of her orthodontic treatment. Lauren has a underbite and it looks like her adult teeth will be a bit crowded. To treat this they start when the child is 8 years old and the jaw is still growing. The hope is that as her jaw continues to grow they can reposition the upper jaw forward and to expand the jaw to fit the adult teeth.

To accomplish this first phase Lauren has to wear a face mask headgear with bands to pull the jaw forward. She also has a palate expander. She will wear this for the next 12 to 18 months. Hopefully at that time the jaw will be in the proper place. Then we will wait a few years until all her adult teeth to start phase 2. Phase 2 will be braces to straighten the teeth. After all this is done I know she will have beautiful teeth.

Day weekend has been a full busy one. Lauren and I started Friday night with the Spy Kids movie. The first Spy Kids movies came out when Elaine and Blaire was Lauren's age. It was kinda cute that years later I am going to the same movie with Lauren.

Lauren and I went to a water park on Saturday. Lauren was finally tall enough to go down the slides and go on the high dive. She went on both of them many many times. We had a great time together and ended the evening with a movie and pizza.

Sunday was spent at Janine and Don's home. The kids swam and we had a nice dinner. Poor little Jacob took a fall when he first got there and ended up with a huge knot on his forehead. Sorry little sweetie. Sammie and Grant then spent the night. Grant enjoyed playing on the computer and the girls played with every toy in Lauren's room. They watched a movie before calling it a night.

Monday was spent with Sammie and Grant. We went back over to Don and Janine's for some more swimming and lunch. We also had to go get some ice cream to cool us down on a very warm Labor Day. It was a very fun Labor Day weekend. A lot of mommy and Lauren time and a lot of cousin fun.

Blaire's First Football Game

Tonight was the start of the high school football season and Blaire as a varsity high school cheerleader. Lauren and I went to watch her cheer at her first game. It was so fun to watch her on the sidelines. She did a great job. The only negative of the night was that it was so hot. It was 117 today and when the game started it was still over 110. Lauren and I can't wait to come back when it is cooler.

Seven Years Ago...

Seven years ago today Lauren was placed in my arms. What a day that was. I can still remember this scared little girl (and mom). I can't believe that it has been seven years since that wonderful day.

We celebrated the day by going to school and work. Lauren then had cheer practice but we did have a fun evening by making our own pizzas and then a special cupcake treat. It was a great way to remember our very special day.

First Day of Third Grade

Lauren at school. Lauren is going to before Kids Club this year so when we get to school there was only teachers and just few other people there. I was able to get a picture before it got too crazy.

Today was Lauren's first day of 3rd grade. I can't believe she is going into 3rd grade. Third grade is special to me because it is the grade I taught for a few years.

Lauren was so excited to go to school she could go to sleep. Once up this morning she was even more excited to go to school. I am dropping her off again this year. She is going to the before care program at school. At first she didn't want to go but a few of her friends were there also so everything was fine.

I hope this is going to be a great year!!!

Meet the Teacher

Today was the annual meet the teacher day at Lauren's school. Lauren has been looking forward to this all summer. This is the day they learn who they will have for a teacher this year. Lauren was happy to find out that she will have Mrs. McGee for third grade. This is the same teacher that Grant had for third grade also.

This is also the day to buy new Cherokee shirts and sign up for clubs and etc. It is always fun drop off the new supplies and to see the classrooms. Lauren is so excited for school to start this coming Monday!!
