Fall Break 2011

For the past few fall breaks we have left town and enjoyed San Diego but this year we decided to stay in town. I took a few days off work and we had a great week.

On Monday we went bowling. Lauren had been requesting that we go bowling so fall break was a perfect time. Lauren's cousins, Elaine and Grant joined us for the fun. Lauren thought it was ok. She told be that she got a bit tired.

Tuesday was spent at her aunt and uncle's house while I worked. Wednesday she went to the first day of cheer camp. One of the local high schools holds a cheer camp for a few days during fall break. The high school cheer line teach them a few cheers and a dance. Then on Friday night they perform with the high school cheer line during the football game. Lauren just loved the cheer camp and thought preforming at the game was so much fun. Lauren had a great time at the football game.

On Thursday Lauren had cheer camp, a birthday party and then we went to a local pottery place to paint pottery. We had a really fun time painting and enjoying each other. I am excited to see how our pieces turned out.

Friday Lauren had her last day of cheer camp and then we went to visit my work. Lauren loves to come to my work and say hi to everyone. We then went to a movie. After the movie we came home to get ready for the football game.

Fall break 2011 is now over it was a fun week. It is always fun to go away for the week but this week was different and fun.

Rock Climbing

Lauren attended a rock climbing birthday party this weekend. She had a great time. She surprised me by making it to the top of the wall a few times. Last time she tried rock climbing she only made it a few feet off the ground. She did a great job and made me so proud when I saw her over come her fear and just keep climbing.

Today Lauren got her class pictures back. I love to see how they turn out. I think they turned out so good. She is looking so grown up. I always put one in her school record book. It is so fun to look back and see how much she has grown up since she started at Cherokee. My baby is growing up so fast!!!

This year Lauren has 29 kids in her class. This is the most she has every had. It worries me a bit but she seems to be doing fine. She loves school and really likes her teacher. She thinks it is so neat that Grant was in her class when he was in 3rd grade. This is also the first year that Lauren is at Cherokee without Grant. In fact they will not be in the same school again until high school. Grant will be a senior and Lauren will be a freshman. We have a long time until then!

Sock Hop At Cherokee

Tonight was the annual Back to School Sock Hop at Lauren's school. Lauren had a great time. She enjoyed the popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, and root beer floats. Of course the hula hoop contest was fun but the best part was hanging out with friends. It was a good night!!

Orthodontic Treatment- phase 1

Lauren official started phase 1 of her orthodontic treatment. Lauren has a underbite and it looks like her adult teeth will be a bit crowded. To treat this they start when the child is 8 years old and the jaw is still growing. The hope is that as her jaw continues to grow they can reposition the upper jaw forward and to expand the jaw to fit the adult teeth.

To accomplish this first phase Lauren has to wear a face mask headgear with bands to pull the jaw forward. She also has a palate expander. She will wear this for the next 12 to 18 months. Hopefully at that time the jaw will be in the proper place. Then we will wait a few years until all her adult teeth to start phase 2. Phase 2 will be braces to straighten the teeth. After all this is done I know she will have beautiful teeth.

Day weekend has been a full busy one. Lauren and I started Friday night with the Spy Kids movie. The first Spy Kids movies came out when Elaine and Blaire was Lauren's age. It was kinda cute that years later I am going to the same movie with Lauren.

Lauren and I went to a water park on Saturday. Lauren was finally tall enough to go down the slides and go on the high dive. She went on both of them many many times. We had a great time together and ended the evening with a movie and pizza.

Sunday was spent at Janine and Don's home. The kids swam and we had a nice dinner. Poor little Jacob took a fall when he first got there and ended up with a huge knot on his forehead. Sorry little sweetie. Sammie and Grant then spent the night. Grant enjoyed playing on the computer and the girls played with every toy in Lauren's room. They watched a movie before calling it a night.

Monday was spent with Sammie and Grant. We went back over to Don and Janine's for some more swimming and lunch. We also had to go get some ice cream to cool us down on a very warm Labor Day. It was a very fun Labor Day weekend. A lot of mommy and Lauren time and a lot of cousin fun.
